NTANDO FOR HIP KULCHA (article first published : 2006-06-17)

The Playhouse Company has scooped top SAMA winner Ntando for a live concert appearance in the Playhouse Opera. The Afro-Pop superstar will star as the headline act in the Playhouse’s hot-property line-up at this year’s Hip Kulcha youth concert, to be presented in the Playhouse Opera on June 17.

The news of Ntando’s upcoming Durban appearance follows hot on his runaway success at the 12th Annual MTN SA Music Awards, transmitted live on SABC1 on May 6 when his song Dali Wam was voted Most Popular Song of the Year. Crowned as SAMA’s Most Popular Artist of the Year, Ntando opened the show with an electrifying performance that had fans who packed Sun City Superbowl in a frenzy.

Also on the Playhouse’s roster for the Hip Kulcha concert on June 17 is eTV’s Backstage heart throb Ziggy, who appears along with leading Durban rapper Iain Robinson and local Newlands hip hop group Verd. The evening is set to slam to a close with Durban-based DJ Tira at the controls.

Preceding the evening’s concert, between 12h45 and 12h55, the Playhouse Company’s 2006 Hip Kulcha youth festivities offer a free programme of midday Youth Talks scheduled to take place in the Playhouse Loft. With Ukhozi fm personality Linda Sibiya in the chair, the topic of Breaking into the Arts Scene will be spearheaded by guest speakers Ziggy and rapper Iain Robinson. Audience members will have a unique opportunity to receive signed posters and meet some members of the evening’s concert stars, including Ntando.

The Hip Kulcha youth concert will start at 19h00 on June 17. Pre-booked tickets R55, R40 and R25 (tickets at the door R65, R50 and R35). Booking is through Computicket on 082 915 8000 or the Playhouse Dial-A-Seat on 031- 3699596 or 031-3699540.
