ENTERTAINMENT AT RUGBY LEGENDS (article first published : 2006-06-17)

There will be plenty of time to relax in between a hectic schedule of rugby in the ABSA World Rugby Legends Festival which will host 300 games of rugby throughout Durban from June 19 to 24. A comprehensive entertainment programme will include concerts by Amore Vittone; Spoonfeedas; Danny Fisher and the Blarney Brothers.

Musician, comedian and MC Danny Fisher was tasked to put together the entertainment line up. On June 21 at KP6 ABSA Stadium there will be entertainment from lunchtime until late evening with a line up compered by Danny Fisher and Robin Boltman. The show starts with Danny’s Angels (an all girl trio) at 13h00; the LMB Duo at 16h00; Illana May at 18h00 and musical duo Stepping Out to take the party from 21h00 until late.

Also on Wednesday evening there will also be entertainment at the various participating clubs with a ladies’ night at the Glenwood Falcons with Joe Parker from 20h00. At the Rovers Rugby Club there will be a Latino themed disco plus the Francois Hardy Band featuring Lauren Laing and at Glenwood High School the Durban based soft rock band Spoonfeedas will perform from 20h00.

On Thursday evening Spoonfeedas will do a repeat performance at a rock n roll themed party at the DHS Old Boys and there will be a round the world pub crawl themed evening at the Glenwood Falcons with Tommy Lawson and Suenette Bridges. At Jaguars Rugby Club, the entertainment will be provided by LMB. On Thursday at the ABSA Stadium Outer Field (KP6) Danny Fisher will MC a programme which kicks off with Pop Shop duo at noon; Illana May at 15h00; the Danny Fisher Road Show from 18h00 onwards and Karlien Husselman and Etienne Steyn from 21h00.

On June 23, the formal entertainment is focused at the ABSA Stadium Outer Field (KP6) with Illana May kicking off the party at 18h00, who are joined by Etienne Steyn and Karlien Husselman at 20h30 (after the Sharks vs Lions match) culminating with a Ruck and Roll party from 23h00 with the Legends Festival Show Band.

On June 24 at the ABSA Stadium Main Field, Pop Shop opens the festivities at noon. At 20h30 Amor Vittone takes to the stage followed by Danny Fisher and the Legends Festival Show Band.

On Sunday evening there will be a Celtic Beer Festival in the ABSA Stadium great white marquee with a Scottish pipe band and Irish Dancers at 14h00; the Danny Fisher Road Show at 16h00 and the Blarney Brothers from 21h00.

All public events from Wednesday until Saturday are free and all are welcome. There will be a nominal entry fee for the Sunday event which will be a donated to rugby club development.
