ANNIE (article first published : 2006-06-12)

Northcliff High School in Johannesburg again tours its annual musical production to the Playhouse Drama for the first week of the mid-year holiday.

This year it is the delightful musical Annie which is about Little Orphan Annie who sets out to find her parents whom she thinks are alive. She is eventually adopted by the billionaire business tycoon Daddy Warbucks in a feel good story set in the depression years of the 1930ís in New York with a highly popular score which includes the well-loved favourites Maybe, The Suníll Come Out Tomorrow, Easy Street, Youíre Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile and many other hit tunes.

This yearís production features a host of fresh new young talent but also includes some of the more seasoned senior pupils who have appeared in productions presented here before.

In the dedicated and capable hands of director Nick Jourdan, the cast of Annie is already making its mark and, once again, audiences are enraptured and rate this on a par with any of the best productions so far. In an historic first, there are two casts of principal characters which means that many will want to see the show twice. Both casts are strong with each actor bringing their own special interpretation to the part they are playing.

This will be the eighth production to tour to Durban in what is now an established tradition. Durban audiences can look forward to the same impressive standard of excellence offering top entertainment from this school which is renowned for its commitment to excellence.

Annie runs in the Playhouse Drama from June 27 to July 2 at 19h30. There will be a matinee performance on July 1 at 14h30 (tickets R30).

Special opening night ticket price R20 followed by half-price special on June 28 (R25) otherwise the standard ticket price is R50 for the evening shows (R40 on July 2).

Bookings for opening night through Nick Jourdan on 083 744 3754 otherwise book at Computicket.
