DUIGAN CLASSICAL RECITAL (article first published : 2006-04-24)

Widely regarded as one of South Africaís foremost concert pianists, Christopher Duigan has maintained a busy performing career following his professional debut with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra in 1991.

He has performed extensively with all leading South African orchestras and has achieved a popular following through his innovative presentation and programming in recitals featuring a broad and eclectic taste in music. Based in KwaZulu-Natal he is committed to promoting classical music in KZN and further afield.

Established in 1997, his Music Revival now presents more than 70 concerts a year including the Classical Concert Series at the Hilton Festival, the Franschhoek Classical Music Festivals and numerous concerts in KZN, Johannesburg and in the Cape Winelands.

International performances include those in London at St Martins in the Field, St Jamesí- Piccadilly, South Africa House and at the Edinburgh Festival 2001 and 2003 where he was broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

He studied at the University of Natal, the University of Cape Town and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He is the recipient of several of South Africa's most prestigious music prizes including the UNISA Overseas Scholarship, Joseph Lan Award and 1st Prize in the Adolph Hallis Piano Competition.

Major performances scheduled for 2006 include a Shostakovich Piano Concerto with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and recitals with soprano Angela Gilbert and with Dmitri Ashkenazy (clarinet).

Christopher Duiganís programme to be presented at the Hilton College Theatre on May 7 at 15h00 will include Mozartís Sonata in F K 333; Beethovenís Sonata in F minor Op 57 'Appassionata'; Lisztís Don Juan Fantasie and Chopinís Scherzo No 2 in B flat minor Op 31. Tickets R60 at the door only. There is no advance booking.
