LOUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN (article first published : 2006-04-24)

Due to appear at the Hexagon Theatre in early May, the BATS will present their new show, Loudly South African.

Their press release says it all:

“So you thought The Bats were a 100% South African? Well you ain’t seen nothin’ yet, baby, or rather……..Take a sho’t left China, the toppies are now full on, proudly and clearly loudly……South African.

“And let me tell you,” the wacky press release continues, “it’s a brand new show that will take you on a taxi ride from the Cape to the Townships, from the 50’s to now-now, with no stops, just laughs and hair raising bends. Okay, not so much of the hair and limited bends, but it’s a ride you won’t forget. And all four wheels are intact: Eddie Eckstein, Paul Ditchfield, Pete Clifford and Derek Gordon are all still roadworthy, in a manner of speaking.

“Being one of South Africa’s longest running products, with unlimited mileage, The Bats are back to pay tribute to South Africa, its music, their music and the entertainment it’s given them through the years…….long years. So these four vintage classics bring to you the murst amazing shurw that is cool, kiff, and just plain lekker…..seriaas! They fly the rainbow flag.”

A free drink and the possibility of a special prize will be given to people dressed in their 1960's best! So audiences are invited to make a party of the evening.

Loudly South African.runs at the Hexagon Theatre on the University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus from May 3 to 6 at 19h30. Tickets R70 (R65pp for groups of 10 or more). Bookings on 033 260 5537 or e-mail hexagon@ukzn.ac.za

The Hexagon's new car park entrance is now in use - just follow the signs.
