THE JAM (article first published : 2006-04-10)

The organisers of the monthly music jam evenings, "The Jam", have announced that the programme has moved from its old venue (Rocky Ridge) to the Lifestyle Restaurant in Marina Beach, only a seven minute drive south from Margate.

Lifestyle Restaurant is situated in the heart of the Marina Beach nursery. Flanked by a beautiful lake, it is also home to Depictions Gallery. Lifestyle Restaurant boasts a covered outdoor stage which is perfect for hosting these regular music evenings. The restaurant will be open on Jam nights for those wishing to grab a snack.

Jam nights will continue to be hosted on the last Thursday of every month with the same cover charge of R20. The Jam has always been and will remain a non-profit organization - all monies received from the evenings goes straight to the guest band to help them to continue making great original SA music.

The first Jam night will take place on April 27 where popular Durban band The Banx will take to the stage. The Banx is a fresh three piece which has recently been signed to Propaganda Management in Durban. They combine powerful chords and classic sounds resulting in a unique blend of mellow funk and grinding rock-grunge.

Following The Banx on April 27 will be Cubic Inch on May 25 and Jason Glover on June 22.

Evenings kick off at 19h30 and everyone is invited. Any local musicians who would like the opportunity to play as a support artist to the bands should call Barbie on 082 496 3545 or Heather on 082 494 0350.

The Jam has been running efficiently for 12 years and has been instrumental in bringing some of the finest solo artists, new bands and well known bands to the South Coast. Many aspiring local artists have also found a home at The Jam where they have been able to play to an appreciative and responsive audience.

The Jam is listed nationwide and has become a recognised, respected and sought after venue for South African bands. All strains of music have been showcased and welcomed - as The Jam endeavours to hold no boundaries or biases towards any one style - hence showcasing the best of what this talented country has to offer.
