IVA BAND AND KHULA (article first published : 2006-03-16)

After a wonderful restart to the BAT Centre sundowner jazz concerts, this weekend sees another great line up of live entertainment at the BAT Centre that has played host to some top groups over the past years. Featured artists are IVA Band on March 17 at 18h00 and Khula on March 18 at 15h00 who promise to get fingers and toes tapping.

IVA Band, who won the Battle of the Bands in 1999 and have gone from strength to strength since then, have received a recording contract and produced a CD entitled Afrika in 2004. The band comprises Nonhlanhla Wanda on vocals, Vuyi Hlubi on keyboards and lead guitar, Sandile Cele on bass Guitar, Erick Duma on trumpet, Delani Mbokazi on saxophone and Mike Chetty on drums. IVA will perform between 18h00 and 20h00.

Khula, who will perform between 15h00 and 17h00, has mainly a jazz and Afro jazz line-up with an all-woman band which was formed in 2002 during the Woman’s Day celebrations. Band members are Nikki Lotter on bass, Rebekah Pillay on drums, Sibongile Mthethwa on lead vocals and Mornica Ntuli on keyboard and backing vocals. Cape Town based pianist/keyboardist and backing vocalist Callie Thomson will hopefully be making an appearance.

Entry to the concerts is free. For more information contact the BAT Centre on 031 332 0451 during office hours.
