SNOOPY!!! (article first published : 2006-03-7)

Coming to the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre in April is Snoopy!! Directed by Elzabé Zietsman, it is a musical comedy that will delight young and old.

Based on the world renowned "Peanuts" comic strip, it delights every audience with the quiet knowledge and wit of its characters. Only the "Peanuts" gang knows how to delight an audience as thoroughly as they do in Charles Schulz's musical creation Snoopy!!!

As the curtain rises, each character enters to join together in the first of many delightful numbers. The series of effervescent vignettes, songs and dances which follows involves the audience in the entertaining world of these five-year-olds and their furry friend.

Charlie Brown (Mortimer Williams) has chosen Snoopy (Byron Olivato) for a pet. Lucy (Michelle Botha) is always patting him on the head and Snoopy, thankfully, finds his fluttering friend, Woodstock (Jeffrey Sebogodi) still needs his advice. Woodstock has fallen in love with a worm.

Such fairy tale scenes as Linus' (Daniel de Lange) vigil in the pumpkin patch as he awaits the arrival of the Great Pumpkin are offset by the amazingly sophisticated exchanges which often occur between the characters. Peppermint Patty (Natasja Jacobs) is a pro on the baseball diamond and Sally (Maggie Benedict) has a schoolgirl crush on Linus.

Snoopy!!! runs at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from April 4 to 30. Shows from Wednesday to Saturday at 20h00 with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 15h00. Special prices available for matinee performances and for school groups. Group bookings through Sonnel Esterhuizen on 011 880 1027 or e-mail sonnel@kookoo.co.za

Book at Computicket.
