SKWATTA KAMP (article first published : 2006-02-20)

Skwatta Flava, the creative jargon that has gotten crazy Hip-Hop heads grooving to the diverse multi-lingual beats from Skwatta Kamp, will hit Krakatoa at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom on February 23 and 24.

Legendary South African Hip-hop heads, Skwatta Kamp, have earned themselves recognition both at home and abroad having walked away with two South African Music Awards for Best Rap in 2003 and 2004, the Best Hip-Hop Award at the Metro FM Awards in 2003, Best Kwaito/Hip-Hop Group at the KIdz Star Awards in 2005, Best Hip-Hop Video in 2005 at the Channel O Video Music Awards and more recently nominated for Best African Hip-Hop at the 2005 Kora Awards. Breaking grounds on the international stage, Skwatta Kamp was also nominated for Artist of the Year at the Source Award International in 2004.

Skwatta Kamp is undeniably the most successful hip-hop group in South Africa: two of their albums Mkhukhu Funkshen (2004) and Washumkhukhu (2005) have both reached gold status having sold more 25,000 copies each, a level no other local group has achieved.

They have shared the stage with the world's hip-hop heavyweights; Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Ludacris and Will Smith at the Blaq August Hip-Hop tour.

Skwatta Kamp will perform at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom's Krakatoa on February 23 and 24 at 21h00.

Tickets R50 booked through Computicket or at the Sibaya Box-Office on 031 580 5555.
