FATAARS’ SA TOUR (article first published : 2006-01-23)

During the 1960’s, Durban musician Steve Fataar’s band, the Flames, was one of the major contemporary music groups in South Africa. Over 40 years on, Steve is still performing with undiminished verve. However, his appearances now invariably include his highly talented daughter Tara (23).

Since the age of eight, Tara has followed in her father’s footsteps. By the time she was 13, she had performed alongside major South African singers such as Sibongile Khumalo. Now a highly experienced vocalist, she has also presented her blend of rock, soul and jazz at major festivals such as Splashy Fen and Awesome Africa.

Sensible girl that she is, Tara Fataar acknowledges that life in the music industry can be transitory and a second income-earning string to one’s bow is vital so she qualified as a sound engineer and runs her own record company, Sibebe Records.

Tara and Steve Fataar are soon to embark on a tour throughout South Africa and this will be launched by several performance in Durban. On January 28, there will be a concert in Albert Park as part of the upliftment of Durban’s CBD, followed by an appearance at Foxy’s in Durban North on January 29 and a further concert at St Philomena’s in Sydenham on February 3.
