PLAYHOUSE NEW YEAR (article first published : 2005-12-16)

The Playhouse Company will throw a bumper New Year's party this Festive Season. This takes place in the foyers of the Playhouse immediately following the final performance of the company's current big stage hit production, The Sound of Music on December 31.

The audience will plunge into full party mode with balloons, streamers, a live band and DJ's revving up the action, with patrons enjoying complementary sparkling wine and snacks as the curtain comes down once more on the final performance of the world's favourite musical.

The spectacular Playhouse production of the Rodgers and Hammersteinís classic musical The Sound of Music is directed by Ralph Lawson and stars Angela Kilian, South Africa's leading lady of big-stage musicals, and debonair male lead Peter Butler.

The glamorous duo head a cast of stage luminaries that includes, among others, Dale Wesson, Thandulwazi Ncube, Julie Solomon, Judith Hawthorn, Clare Mortimer, Tamar Meskin and Thomie Holtzhausen, along with gifted young Durban performers as the Von Trapp family children. Director Ralph Lawson has replaced Garth Anderson who has had to withdraw from the show due to surgery. Graham Scott conducts the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tickets for the New Year's Eve performance of The Sound of Music, which starts at 21h00, cost R200 and include admission to the New Year's Eve Party after the performance.

Booking is at Computicket on 083 915 8000 or the Playhouse Dial-A-Seat on 031 369 9596 or 031 369 9540.
