CHRISTMAS AT THE CATALINA (article first published : 2005-12-8)

Nuts 4 Music in association with The Catalina Theatre will present the last Catalina Classical Champagne Concert of the year on December 11. Normally these concerts take place on the first Sunday of the month but artists’ commitments has necessitated the move to the second Sunday.

Christmas at The Catalina is now established as one of the most popular Christmas concert events in Durban offering an enjoyable variety of Christmas music to start off the Festive Season.

The programme will feature the Durban Girls Choir with their conductor David Daniel at the piano and soprano Stacey Almond with young soloists Samantha Van Gysen on violin and Saxon Nautsch on saxophone. Also appearing will be contemporary dancer Gerthie Theron.

The festive line-up includes songs such as What Sweeter Music; Star Carol, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly alongside Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu, The Prayer and a special vocal arrangement of The Moonlight Sonata for voice and piano. Completing the programme are Rusalka’s Song to The Moon and Vivaldi’s Sposa Son Disprezzata. The audience will be supplied with carol sheets to join in a selection of favourite carols to round off the fun.

Christmas at The Catalina takes place at 12h00 on December 11 at Catalina Theatre on Wilson’s Wharf.

Tickets R65 include mince pies and snacks plus champagne and orange juice to put audiences in the Christmas spirit! To book phone Catalina Box Office on 031 305 6889.
