OPUS 3 (article first published : 2005-11-4)

On November 8, Friends of Music will present a concert by the trio, Opus 3, a unique ensemble that plays and arranges music for saxophone, cello and guitar.

Opus Trio comprises Charl Lamprecht on classical guitar, Toni Ivanova on cello-accordion and Marc Botha on saxophone.

Charl commenced studying music at the University of Pretoria where he became the first graduate ever to obtain a B Mus degree in Performance with guitar as his main subject.

Toni is a graduate from the High School for Music in Varna, Bulgaria. She has toured Europe, USA, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Singapore extensively. Since moving to South Africa, she was appointed the Principal Cellist in the Orchestra of the former PACT (Performing Arts Council of the Transvaal) in Pretoria.

Marc Botha has worked in a full-time post at Pretoria Boys High School since 2002 whilst still studying for his MA in English Literary Theory.

Their programme includes works by Bach, Vivaldi, Ruiz Pipo, Clapton and Stover.

The Prelude Performer for the evening will be ten-year old violinist Yea Kyung Kim.

The recital will take place at 19h45 on November 8 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 Old Fort Road. A cash bar is available and there is safe parking. Book at Computicket.
