VOCE ENSEMBLE (article first published : 2005-10-24)

The UK-based Voce Ensemble was created from the musical and humanitarian vision of South African-born trumpeter Claude Lamon and violinist Cecilia Griffiths-Lamon. Since 2003, Voce has united professional musicians from local communities and the global domain to explore, promote and perform music for the benefit of South African children living in the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

With an impressive collective biography, Voce includes some of the finest established and emergent international artists amongst its flexible chamber ensemble and orchestra. Drawing inspiration from a wide-ranging musical repertoire, Voce is particularly keen to promote South African composers and musicians and to provide opportunities for young local musicians to perform alongside international artists.

Proceeds from Voce Ensemble’s concerts, advertising and sponsorship support South African AIDS orphans, Samuel and Patricia, in their education, health and daily living needs. Funds also benefit the deserving Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund UK, which works to secure and enhance the future of the children of South Africa.

Voce Ensemble’s next concert takes place at the Aisher Hall, Sevenoaks School in Kent, UK, on December 17 at 19h30, and most of the performers have strong Durban connections. The all-Mozart programme features The Impresario (Der Schauspieldirekor). This comedy with music in one act will be conducted by Barry Griffiths OBE with sopranos Bronwen Forbay and Joyce Moholoagae alongside tenor Matthew Smith and basses Njabulo Madlala and Richard Suart.

Also appearing will be Jonathan Oshry who will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto no.16 in D major KV451.

For those able to attend the concert, booking can be done at www.voceensemble.com/contactandbookings.html
