VON MEMERTY AT HILTON (article first published : 2005-09-15)

The 13th annual Witness Hilton Arts Festival is to be held on September 16, 17 and 18. In its impressive line-up, it features the effervescent and highly popular Ian von Memerty who will be performing in Captain Entertainment as well as assisting in Rory Rootenberg's Behind the Mask.

Perhaps best loved for his evergreen Handful of Keys, Ian von Memerty brings his exciting new show to KZN's premier art festival. Captain Entertainment in Music and Mayhem is dubbed: "When things look desperate you send a super hero to the rescue! When life and its grind have stolen your smile, call on Captain Entertainment the singing super-hero! Funnier than therapy, more musical than Prozac, cheaper than Jacob Zuma, Music and Mayhem is the all-round cure for the blues. It is a superhuman show, full of very human laughter and cosmically recognized music. Captain Entertainment is a one-man rescue mission!

Ever-busy Ian has also been artistic consultant on Behind the Mask (The affordable Phantom!) starring Rory Rootenberg and Lana English and scripted by Michelle Simpson. Two of the brilliant stars of the Phantom of the Opera, Rory Rootenberg and Lana English team up to offer an unforgettable evening of love and pathos, song and surprises.

Booking kits are available from selected SPAR Stores in KZN and from Exclusive Books (La Lucia, Pavilion and Gateway), Adams in Musgrave Centre and town, Shooters and Shuters and the Witness offices in Pietermaritzburg. Detailed information can be found on www.artslink.co.za/hilton

"Contrary to popular belief, the festival does not sell-out overnight!" says Festival Director Sue Clarence. "Yes, box office business is brisk but there are still inevitably tickets available for all shows. But don't delay as the popular shows do sell quickly!"

It is strongly advised to book accommodation early at one of the many B&Bs and hotels in the area. For more information - visit www.artslink.co.za/hilton or www.witness.co.za or the Hilton Festival hotline on theatre@hiltoncollege.com or phone 033 383 0126.
