SCHOOL OF MUSIC CONCERTS (article first published : 2005-09-5)

The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Music School hosts a regular free lunch-hour concert programme during the semesters.

September 5: A Change of Tune by the University of Johannesburg Choir, conducted by Renette Bouwer. The choir will perform a selection of choral arrangements including folk songs, traditional African songs and a cappella arrangements for their 55 member ensemble made up of full-time students from the University of Johannesburg.

September 7: Live Computer Music by American composer Matthew Ostrowski. A New York City native, he has been using electronics since the early 1980’s, working in improvised music, multimedia music-theatre and audio installations.

September 12:Four Hands, One Piano! Liezl- Marét Jacobs and Andrew Warburton perform piano duets including Poulenc's Sonata for Four Hands and Sonata in F Major for Piano Duet, K.497 by Mozart.

September 14: The Opera Ensemble from the UKZN Opera Studio & Choral Academy conducted by David Smith and accompanied by Andrew Warburton (Piano). The programme includes rarely heard music from King Thamos by Mozart.

September 26: Limes X - the award winning German jazz trio featuring Patrick Bebelaar (piano), Frank Kroll (clarinet & saxophone) and Bernd Settelmeyer (drums/percussion) play works by UKZN's Jürgen Bräuninger and Ulrich Süsse.

September 28: A piano recital by UKZN School of Music student Catherine Morrow. Programme includes Debussy, Bach, Mozart and Schoenberg.
