GRAEME CURRIE (article first published : 2005-08-20)

On August 23, the Centre for Jazz & Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal will host well known Johannesburg bassist Graeme Currie who returns to Durban to perform the second recital for his MMus.

Graeme has put together an interesting programme of well known jazz tunes including Donna Lee by Charlie Parker, Cherokee by Ray Noble, The Night Has A Thousand Eyes by Weisman, Garrett, Wayne, Lester Come Back, Opus de Funk by Horace Silver and more.

The Graeme Currie StraightAhead Quintet features Graeme Currie (electric and double basses), Wendy Twyford (vocal & percussion) and Phil Holder (saxes) from Johannesburg with Durban's own Burton Naidoo (piano & keyboard) and Bruce Baker (drums).

Admission R20 (R5 students). There is a cash bar and secure parking.
