KZNPO SUNSET PROMS (article first published : 2005-07-28)

High tea, stunning views over the Indian Ocean and scintillating sounds from the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra! Sounds like a perfect afternoon under the open skies? The place to be is Crawford Preparatory La Lucia on July 30 at 15h00 for the KZNPO Sunset Proms with gates opening at 13h00 when the KZNPO will entertain with a mixture of light classical and popular music.

Also on the bill will be the popular Melanie Lowe of Idols fame and Rouan Stuart who are both presently wowing audiences.

From 14h30, entertainment will be provided by talented pupils from Crawford Schools, Marco Coetzee and Sarah Westergreen, who have just returned from a very successful tour with the KZN Youth Choir where they scooped two gold medals at the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival in Weinegerode in Germany.

So, pack a picnic basket with some favourite food and wine, take along blankets and chairs, pick up family and friends and relax for a couple of hours whilst enjoying the wonderful music. There is plenty of safe, free parking. In the event of rain, the concert will take place on July 31 at 15h00.

For those who prefer to sit at a table, there is a “High Tea” table competition where audience members can use their imagination to decorate their own table. These tables will be judged by well-known interior decorator, Mario Rodrigues from Interdeco. There will be great prizes including a two-night stay at Zimbali Lodge and a High Tea Cake from Jaqui Rey of Food Matters in Ballito, plus plenty of lucky draw prizes.

The Crawford Schools run an Outreach Project which provides a daily meal for needy children at Mount Moriah. Please support this critical feeding scheme by bringing along a can of food to the concert. Pupils will also be selling hotdogs to raise funds towards this project.

Ticket R50 (R25 for scholars) with table tickets (table of 10) R60 (R30 per scholar). Book at Computicket, the school or at the gate on the day.
