URGENT – KZNPO CHANGE (article first published : 2005-05-24)

The KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic’s World Symphony Series Winter Season is currently underway with concerts taking place at the Durban City Hall on Thursdays at 19h30.

The second half of the programme for the WSS concert on May 26 has had to be changed. The orchestra should have been playing Symphony No 4 "The Inextinguishable" by Nielsen.

“The music has been couriered from Denmark and as I speak it is still in Customs at Johannesburg International Airport with little chance of it being released in time,” said a concerned Janet Welch, KZNPO marketing manager.

Conducted by Baldur Bronnimann, the orchestra will therefore be playing Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 "Eroica" instead. The other item on the programme will be Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 with American musician Spencer Myer as soloist. Noted as one of the most promising pianists of his generation, Myer was also the winner of the recent 10th UNISA International Piano Competition.
