A FRENCH AFFAIR (article first published : 2005-03-27)

The Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga Rocks is to host A French Affair, an evening of cabaret in true old-fashioned music hall style on April 8.

The show has been devised and directed by well-known Pietermaritzburg director Meryl Kurz, who has been producing musical shows in the capital city for 30 years under the auspice of Pig and Whistle productions. This is a non-profit organisation which performs mainly for charities and fundraising events

The original Pig and Whistle shows took the form of Music Hall evenings and entertained the Pietermaritzburg public for many years. So popular were these productions that they have become annual events which sell out almost as soon as tickets became available. While not widely known on the main stream theatrical circuits, her productions have been highly sought after for private functions and charity fundraisers for years. They have performed by invitation in Mauritius on two occasions.

“Our productions have that true old fashioned style that really is enormously appealing,” says Meryl. “This production - A French Affair - is the kind of show you’d want to bring your folks to for a fun night out with good food, enjoyable singing and a good old time laugh.“

The show has a programme of songs pertaining to a French theme including a lively section on entertainers at the Moulin Rouge. Songs are performed in both in English and in French.”

A French Affair, has a successful performance history and has been presented at venues throughout KwaZulu-Natal. The cast performed at the Oyster Box Hotel last year and is returning by public demand.

Tickets R120 include a three-course meal. Dinner starts at 19h00 with the show at 20h00. For more information or to book contact Que-Anne on 031 561 2233.
