CLASSIC JAZZ MASTERS (article first published : 2005-03-26)

2005 marks the Friends of the Durban Botanic Gardens’ tenth anniversary of the Nedbank Music at the Lake Concerts.

The next concert in this series will be Classic Jazz Masters on April 10 at 14h30. The concert will feature the Johannesburg-based Classic Jazz Masters, one of the very few authentic Dixieland jazz bands in South Africa. Supported by an excellent rhythm section, the ensemble features the talents of trumpeter Bob Wade, clarinetist Roy Burrows and trombonist Jake Pressly.

This year the Durban Botanic Gardens celebrates 154 years as Durban’s oldest public institution and is currently the oldest surviving botanic garden on the African continent.

“We are fortunate that our fundraising events and sponsorship have made it possible to undertake several new projects and upgrade facilities at the Gardens,” says Curator of the Gardens, Christopher Dalzell. “Future plans include extensions to the Gardens in line with an exciting concept known as “The Garden Window Project” that will see a arrange of new facilities and services.”
