MAXWELL AT RHUMBELOW (article first published : 2005-03-15)

The popular Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo is to present Peter Maxwell: Dyed, not resurrected

Peter Maxwell needs very little introduction to regular Durban audiences. He was a regular feature of the festive season with his cabaret show at the Edward Hotel and various night spots in town. He describes himself as a “School Soprano, Mechanical & Electrical Engineer (ENGLAND), Security Intelligence Royal Air Force (U.K. & FAR EAST) and, since 1956, an International Pianist Entertainer (WORLDWIDE).”

His career has spanned over 50 years and still the Maxwell magic attracts audiences to his after-dinner cabaret and theatre shows. He has been described by the media as “Handsomely Harmonious”, “Hauntingly Innovative”, a “Keyboard Manipulator”, Mesmerizing & Mind-boggling” and “Sensationally brilliant”.

With a three-octave voice, a sense of humour and a sparkling technique at the keyboard, Peter promises that the musical collection to be presented at the Rhumbelow is but a small sample of the vast talent he has in his repertoire.

Songs will include Night and Day, I've got you under my skin, Dooby Dooby Bye Bye, Kliener Kliener Bird and Hold it flash bang wallop from Half A Sixpence as well as What a Wonderful World, My way, and many others.

Shows take place on April 1 and 2 at 20h00 and on April 3 at 18h30. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for picnic dinner.

Tickets R50. Take along food picnic baskets and braais will be available. There is limited secure parking and booking is essential. A cash bar is available (no alcohol may be brought on to the premises). Rhumbelow Theatre is situated in Cunningham Avenue off Bartle Road.
