April 4-9, 2005: 8th Time of the Writer. This six-day international festival of writers is presented in association with the French Institute of South Africa. Some 16 writers read, discuss and debate their work nightly at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Day activities take place at tertiary institutions and other venues, including a workshop for educators, workshops in rural areas, book-launches, short-story competitions and wide-reaching school visits designed to stimulate a culture of reading and writing.

June 15-26 2005: 26th Durban International Film Festival. The festival celebrates its 26th anniversary with over 200 screenings of top films from around the world, including special reflections on South Africa and Africa. Most of the films are premiere showings in this country. The festival also offers seminars and workshops featuring local and international filmmakers. The programme includes screenings in township areas where cinemas are non-existent. The festival has a competition, entry is free and open with a deadline end February 2005.

August 19-28, 2005: 8th Jomba! Contemporary Dance Experience with the principal venue being the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. A dynamic 10-day presentation of the finest in South African contemporary dance, plus three or four international dance companies. Jomba! also includes workshops, masterclasses, a schools programme, a choreographers forum, and a fringe programme for work by developing choreographers.

September 24 -October 2, 2005: 7th Awesome Africa Music Festival. The Centre for Creative Arts is a co-ordinating partner in this major music event featuring artists from around the world, with a particular focus on Africa. Celebrating cultural diversity through music and the arts, the festival includes workshops, community concerts, collaborations between musicians, and a music symposium.
