SPECIAL PREVIEW OF NUNSENSE (article first published : 2004-11-26)

A special preview of the hilarious musical, Nunsense, directed by Fiona Ramsay and starring Amra-Faye Wright, Carol Trench, Shelly McLean, Nothando Ngubane and Tarryn Page, is being staged on December 5 at 18h00 at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

This performance of the fun show - which tells of five nuns planning a fund-raising variety concert, on a Grease set, after one of their colleagues is accidentally poisoned - is to be a special benefit to help save a Durban 21-year-old's life.

For each R75 ticket sold, Mark Hawkins's Very, Very Big Productions, which is presenting Nunsense, will donate R30 to a fund established for local trainee chef, Geri de Coriolis, who has to raise R600,000 to find a suitable door for a life-saving bone marrow transplant. Geri, of Morningside, is in a struggle for survival against chronic myeloid leukaemia.

She urgently needs cash to find a bone marrow donor abroad as there are no suitable matches on the South African donor registry. Nine possible donors overseas have been located but funds are required for further testing and the life-saving transplant.

Nunsense features the talents of an award-winning team - set and costume designs are by Greg King, lighting by Michael Broderick, choreography by David Gouldie and musical direction by Evan Roberts, who also leads a five-piece band in the show.

Anyone after a good laugh with Nunsense, and anxious to contribute to a very worthy cause, is asked to book tickets for Sunday's performance by contacting Margie Coppen on 083 251 9412.

Donations for Geri can be made to the Geraldine de Coriolis Fund, Standard Bank, Musgrave branch, code 042626, account number 051234696, Please add a reference (your name or company). For more info about Geri or her fund contact her parents, Alain and Jenny de Coriolis, on e-mail: adc@iafrica.com or phone 031 462 4427.
