TRANSAFRICA'S 2ND BIRTHDAY (article first published : 2004-10-27)

To celebrate TransAfrica's second birthday on October 31, with a bit of help from Heineken, the BAT Centre will host music from 14h00 with iVa followed at 16h00 by the Burlesque Supergroup who will perform until 18h00.

iVa is one of Durbanís most popular groups with their afro-jazz/trad mix of groovy tunes. Having just completed its independently released recording simply entitled Africa the group promises a showcase of their original compositions. The group comprises Nonhlanhla Wanda on lead vocals, Vuyani Hlubi on keyboards and guitar, Mike Chetty on drums, Delani Mbhokazi on saxophones and Sandile Cele on bass.

The Burlesque Supergroup offers a big band with a line-up of some of Durban's finest: Richard Walne on acoustic guitar and vocals, Grant Emmerich on drums, Jochem Zeller on guitar, Roly Struckmeyer on bass guitar, John Edwards on piano, Malcolm McKinlay on trumpet, Murray McKinlay on trombone and Andrew Arbuckle on trombone. The backing vocalists are Karen Van Pletsen, Carol Trench and Donnagh Roberts! Not enough for you? The inimitable Doc Paul Nijs will also be putting in a guest appearance.

Besides the Heineken promotion, there will also be a cocktail on arrival to help ease audience members into the party. Four tickets to the David Sanborn concert will be given away as part of a lucky draw. David Sanborn will be performing at the Durban Exhibition Centre on November 5, supported by Jimmy Dludlu.

More information from the BAT Centre on 031 332 0451. In the event of inclement weather, the party will be moved inside the restaurant.
