LARA JONES FOR KZNPO (article first published : 2004-09-21)

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s next concert in its World Symphony Series Spring Season takes place at the Durban City Hall on September 30 at 19h30.

Since her debut at the age of eleven with the then Natal Philharmonic, much-loved pianist Lara Jones has returned on many occasions to captivate audiences.

On September 30, Mozart’s expressive Piano Concerto No. 24 is her platform, under the masterful guidance of KZNPO favourite and US-based conductor Leslie B. Dunner. The concert opens with Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and the closing work is Stravinksy’s powerful Rite of Spring which was last performed by the KZNPO in 1986. Both these works were coincidentally produced as ballets choreographed by the legendary Nijinsky and each caused much scandal when first performed.

Booking is at Computicket.
