MUSA NCUNA IN RECITAL (article first published : 2004-08-22)

Durban music lovers can hear one of KZN’s finest musical exports, the swiftly-rising young tenor Musa Ncuna, in performance at the SABC Studio M1 in Old Fort Road, on August 23.

Accompanied by pianist Christopher Duigan, he will sing songs from Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin, and opera arias from Mozart's Don Giovanni and Die Zauberflöte, Donizetti's L'Elisir D'Amore and Verdi's La Traviata.

A music graduate cum laude of the former University of Durban Westville, Musa Ncuna completed his Masters in Composition cum laude though UNISA, before completing his Masters in Performance, again cum laude, at the Music Conservatoire in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Now professionally based in Europe - he much regrets the lack of performance opportunities in serious music circles in South Africa, particularly in Durban - he has already begun to make a respected name for himself in operatic, oratorio and concert circles. On his return to Germany at the end of August following his current holiday, he will begin a two-year soloist contract with the prestigious Cologne Opera in Germany.

Sharing the recital platform with Musa Ncuna and Christopher Duigan in Monday's recital to be presented by Music Revival, is the noted Russian born cellist, Boris Kerimov who will perform sonatas by Brahms and Grieg.

Tickets R50. Book on info@musicrevival.co.za. The concert begins at 19h30.
