ORCHESTRA 2004 (article first published : 2004-07-25)

On August 1, the British Heritage and Cultural Association will host their annual massed orchestral concert - Orchestra 2004 conducted, as always, by popular Gauteng-based Richard Cock.

The Orchestra concerts repreesent an exciting project which aims to bring together musicians from all age and race groups for a musical concert with a massed orchestra, under the baton of Richard Cock, to serve the interests of the arts, culture and musical education in Durban.

Anyone who can read and play music is encouraged to participate and over 90 individual musicians registered to play in the 2003 project. The concerts have done much to generate a renewed interest in amateur performing while supporting and creating awareness for the arts in KZN.

The National Ports Authority has generously sponsored the venue N-Shed. Sincere thanks also go to the KZN Arts & Culture Council and to Rand Merchant Bank for their Project Grants and to Regma for Printing.

The audience will be welcomed by a performance by the Field Band Foundationís marching brass band and their dancing girls at 14h30 followed by a performance by the Steel Drum Foundation. The main concert will run from 15h00 to 16h30 Tickets available from 124 Davenport Road, Glenwood or from the door on the day. Unreserved seating. R25 (R15 pensioners/students/children)

The concert takes place at 14h30 at the N-Shed Passenger Terminal in Durban Harbour. Itís still not too late to register as a musician. Phone 031 202 6174 which is also the number for bookings.
