ZING II (article first published : 2004-06-28)

With the return of kykNET's Zing the talent poured in like crazed fans at a free Britney concert! Entries this year were more than double that of last year and these duo's can zing! Zingers lined up from KKNK to Bloemfontein, Johannesburg and the Mother city, even as far as Namibia, to have an opportunity to muzically massage the judges' ears. Different from last year, not only duo's had this opportunity. This year, contestants had the opportunity to enter as a singleton. The best solo-voices were paired up, had the chance to face the judges as a duo, and just wait and see how these "arranged-marriages" turned out!

The panel of judges, holding the future of the hopeful duo's in their hands, include: highly acclaimed musician and TV personality Coenie de Villiers, talented Grammy nominee Jennifer Jones and Crescendo winner, musician and songwriter Joe Niemand. This trio has the task of using their finely tuned ears to find the best out of the bunch.

The presenters, who will be introducing the zingers to viewers, are the gorgeous Kim Nicolas and handsome Henré Pretorius. This duo will keep viewers entertained as they get up to a lot of mischief during the series.

This year, the Zing-academy is situated in central Johannesburg - the Parktonian-hotel is the zingers' home away from home and the Civic Theatre is the place where, after many rehearsals, singers become zingers. Heidi Edeling acts as vocal coach and Johan Hendriksz (Manager for Zing 1 winners, Johnny and Vivian) teach duo's the business side of the music industry. The task of teaching the duo's how to act on stage and in front of the camera belongs to Heidi Mollentze. Rounding off this talented team is the band responsible for musical interpretation and accompaniment, led by Roelof Colyn.

Zing II starts on July 2 on kykNET to be screened on Fridays from 20h00 to 21h00 and on Wednesdays from 19h30 to 20h00. Zing II will also be aired during M-Net Open-time. The first hour-long episode starts showing on July 6 from 17h00 to 18h00. Thereafter a hour-long episodes will be shown from July 12 on Mondays from 17h00 to 18h00 with 30-minute episodes from July 11 on Sundays at 10h00.
