GARTH TAYLOR UNPLUGGED (article first published : 2004-04-13)

Local musician Garth Taylor will perform his live-wire show, Garth Taylor Unplugged at the Catalina Theatre from April 14 to 18.

Durban born and based Garth Taylor is currently one of South Africa's most popular singer/songwriters who has several hit songs to his credit, including a few number ones. He appeals to all South Africans - irrespective of language, race or creed - making him an icon for the new South Africa. Garth Taylor is a vivacious, vibrant performer, often combining complex martial arts styles into his electric dance routine.

Due to popular demand, Garth Taylor will take a break from the studio where he is currently working on his new album, to present Garth Taylor Unplugged which features a live band and sees him performing his many hits as well as songs from his forthcoming album. Garth can play several instruments including keyboards, drums and guitar. He is equally at ease playing to a huge crowd of 20,000 people at last year’s Simply Red concert in Johannesburg, a club or a theatre.

"Ever since I can remember, I have had a passion for music,” says Garth. “Starting off professionally at the age of 15, song writing and performance seemed to come almost naturally. I started off with an interest in guitar, and never having any formal training I taught myself, before moving onto keyboard and drums, always pushing myself to be the best I possibly could be. It was through this determination and events that occurred throughout my life that my first mini-album Why was recorded."

Garth Taylor performs constantly country wide and has been an opening act for Shaggy and Jonathan Butler. Garth Taylor has received very favourable reviews wherever he has performed.

Garth Taylor Unplugged is performed nightly at 20h00, with the final performance on Sunday April 18 at 18h00. For more information or to book, contact the Catalina Theatre on 031 305 6889.

Garth Taylor has a large Durban based fan club and an informative web site at www.garthtaylor.co.za
