TAMARA DEY FOR EGLESIAS CONCERT (article first published : 2004-04-11)

South Africa's First Lady of kwaito, Tamara Dey, has been selected to open for Latin hero Enrique during his upcoming tour which is presented by Vodacom, Unite Against Hunger and Big Concerts.

Enrique Eglesias is the biggest selling Spanish language artist in the world. He has enjoyed world-wide sales of over 30 million records, five American Music Awards, two Grammy's, two Billboard Music Awards, a World Music Award and more! He proficiently made the transition into mainstream pop, with the European version of Bailamos quickly became the most-requested radio track in the U.S, and scoring him a number one in both the Pop and Latin charts.

Likewise Tamara Dey who has managed to cross all cultural, age and language barriers. She has been recognised as one of the few South African artists contributing towards bridging the gap between all cultures, ages and races. Shortly after releasing her debut album, The First Lady, she was nominated for three Standard Bank SAMA Awards, Best Female Artist Of The Year at the Metro FM Awards and Most Stylish Female Singer in a Music Video at the Elle Magazine Style awards.

Her second album, The First Lady and the Boys, is a hot new dance CD filled with jazz, pop, rock, funk and kwaito influences. Within a week of its release, the track Uyazi Mos was climbing the charts, with the second single off the album, Itís Disco hitting the number 1 spot on national radio earlier this year. The chart-topping album led to an invitation to play alongside Mandoza at the Cairo Music Festival in Egypt, a performance at the Presidents Cup, and an opening slot for American R&B sensation Beyonce.

Tamara was then nominated for Best Female Vocalist at the Metro Fm Awards, Awesome Women of the year by Cosmopolitan Magazine, and selected by De Beers Diamond Company to represent their Shining Lights collection.

Enrique supports Unite Against Hunger a crisis food relief program driven by Food & Health Care Giant, Tiger Brands providing immediate hunger relief to more than 80 000 South Africans per month. Sms the word "hunger" to donate R10 towards "Unite Against Hunger" on 082 003 9040.

The Durban concert will take place on April 29 at Westridge Stadium. Ticket prices R150; R225 and R300. Book at Computicket.
