LOVE IS IN THE AIR (article first published : 2004-02-9)

Music lovers have a chance to spoil that special person in their lives when the Friends of the Durban Botanic Gardens and the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra host a special Valentine's Day Concert at the Gardens.

Love is in the Air is the first in the 2004 Nedbank's Music at the Lake Concert series. It takes place on February 14 at 18h30.

The KZNPO will be joined by singers Karen van Pletsen and Clive Gumede who will present a programme of great music. The soloists recently appeared in a very successful run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

The evening's bumper programme includes On Golden Pond, The Shadow of your Smile and The Greatest Love of All. Karen will give a soulful version of My Baby just cares for Me and Clive will turn up the heat with the up-tempo number Buttercup.

Up for grabs in the lucky draw are prizes which include a bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne donated by The Really Great Brand Company, a scrumptious hamper of Arriba Chocolates, dinner for two at Havana Grill & Wine Bar Sun Coast Casino, and a gift voucher from The Pavilion.

Pack a picnic basket, crack open the champagne and enjoy a romantic evening with someone special - or round up a party of family and friends and join the fun. Roses will be on sale before the concert begins. Gates open at 16h00.

Ticket prices have not increased this year - R35 (R25 senior citizens and R20 students and Friends of the Gardens): Entrance is free to children under 12 years. Book at Computicket or the Info Centre in the Gardens two weeks before the concert or on the day.

More information on 031 309 1170 or the Friends Office on 031 202 5819 (office hours), or email friends@prcsu.durban.gov.za or contact Janet Welch at the KZN Philharmonic offices on 031 369 9453, email kznpomar@iafrica.com
