NICKY FOR BASA KZN (article first published : 2003-11-17)

Well-known arts personality and representative of various overseas arts funding agencies, Nicky du Plessis has been appointed Business & Arts South Africa (BASA) regional representative for KZN.

Holding a Masters Degree in Drama and Theatre Studies, Nicky du Plessis is a freelance consultant in the arts, specialising in project management and evaluation, and arts education.

International clients include the Royal Netherlands Embassy, Sida, Norad, the Nordic Council and the KaosPilots University from Denmark, for whom she has provided a range of management/educational services. She has also been responsible for materials development and training in arts management and cultural tourism for various community development projects in South Africa, as well as with the writing of new educational standards in arts and culture management for the National Qualifications Framework. She serves as the National Deputy Chairperson of PANSA (Performing Arts Network of South Africa), and is a Ministerial appointment to the Board of the National Arts Council.

Initially a part-time position for a trial period of six months, the Business & Arts South Africa appointment attempts to raise the profile and presence of BASA in KwaZulu-Natal.the region. Nicky will be available to represent BASA at all local events; provide feed-back on applicants and/or sponsors in the region that have applied to BASA; develop relationships with local arts organisations, and invite entry to the Business Day/BASA Awards.

She will also take advantage of any media opportunities on behalf of BASA; make relevant presentations on BASA where necessary and to try to identify existing sponsorship programmes to encourage membership and the documentation of case studies.

Nicky invites the local artist community to contact her if they have sponsorship possibilities that might benefit from BASA support or follow up.

She is also available to present BASA strategies and aims to those unfamiliar with the organisation and invites information on new sponsorship relationships to be identified for the Awards? Requests for informational seminars will also be welcomed.

Contact Nicky du Plessis at Cultural Radius Arts and Culture Consultancy on 082 901 0735.
