JOSEPH AND HIS AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. (article first published : 2003-11-16)

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was the musical that put Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice on the map. And its humble beginnings as a simple pop cantata with a Biblical theme in a school hall in March 1968 are all part of its perennial charm and freshness.

Very Very Big Productions is to stage this classic family musical at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre for the festive season in December. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a humourous musical retelling of the Biblical story of Joseph and his many brothers.

The cast features Karen van Pletsen as the narrator, Derrick Anderson as Joseph; Shanthan Pillay as the Pharaoh; Garth Anderson as Jacob/Potiphar and the Brothers are Clive Gumede (featured in Popstars); Russell Braum; Musa Hlatshwayo; Ebrahim Medell; David Phipson; Quinton Ribbonaar. Dean Roberts; Isaac Ishmail Shozi; Cobus Vos and Graeme Watson. The Adoring Girls will be played by Louise Fraquet and Angela Lardant.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat plays at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from December 10 to 31. Book at Computicket.
