CATALINA CONCERTS (article first published : 2003-11-16)

The Dolce Vita Quartet is currently presenting a series of monthly Sunday lunch-hour concerts at the Catalina Theatre, Wilson’s Whart. Dolce Vita is led by acting KZNPO Deputy Concert Master Beatris Lauenburg (vioin) with Christian (cello) and Relica Chernev (2nd violin) and Suzette Vorster (viola).

The concert on November 23 at 12h00 features the lower brass section of the KZNPO including the two charming Swiss brothers Eric and David Rey on trombone and tuba with Frederic Theodoloz on bass trombone. Part of their programme will be the Vaughan Williams Tuba piece. Well-known pianist and conductor Gerhard Geist will accompany on piano.

The third concert is on December 21 and will again feature Stacey, Gerhard and Beatris with two of Stacey’s talented vocal protegees - Lungelo Luthuli and Princess Sibisi who are currently members of the Natal Playhouse Senzenje Chorale - a training ground for local singers to perform music by Zulu composers.
