OLGA FADINA (article first published : 2003-11-13)

The Prelude Performer for the next Friends of Music concert on November 18 will be Olga Fadina. She will perform before the featured artist of the evening, the acclaimed South African pianist Lara Jones.

Olga Fadina was born in 1980 in Saint Petersburg (Russian Federation). In 1989 she began playing piano at a music school in Klaipeda (Lithuania) where she completed her diploma with honours (1996).

Olga’s dream of being an opera singer inspired her to pursue further studies in music as a vocal student. In 1996 she entered the Conservatory of St. Shimkus in Klaipeda where she studied for two years with Valerija Balsyte, soloist of the Music Theatre. In 1997 she took part in the Republic Competition for Young Opera Singers in Vilnuis, Lithuania.

Since 1998 Olga studied at the Vocal Faculty at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory (named after N.A Rimsky-Korsakov) with Prof Tamara Novichenko, Merited Artist of Russia. When her father was transferred to South Africa on business, Olga decided to accompany her family and enroll at the University on Natal, Opera School and Choral Academy (2003).

She is at present registered for a BA Hons in Performance Degree and is studying voice with Colleen Philp. Olga appeared as a soloist with the KZNPO at OSCA’s Inauguration Concert and at a recent UND concert. She was also the joint overall winner at the recently held Classical Performers Competition at the University of Natal.

The Prelude Performers project is made possible by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund.

The concert takes place at 19h45 on November 18 at the Durban Jewish Centre, Old Fort Road. There is safe parking and a cash bar is available. Book at Computicket.
