MUSIC AT THE RAINBOW (article first published : 2003-09-19)

You can see Zwakala in concert on September 18 and 19 and again on September 25 and 26 at 17h30. Playing Afro-jazz/township jive, this five-piece group from Clermont township is the Rainbow's official resident band.

Sharon Katz & The Peace Train appear with special guests from the KZN Indigenous Music Development Project in concert on September 23 from 17h00 to 19h00. Rainbow Jazz Club in association with the Awesome Africa Music Festival, Celebrate Durban and the KZN Indigenous Music Development Project are pleased to annouce this once off concert being brought to Pinetown for the listening pleasure of highway residents!

South African Grammy-nominee and international performer, Sharon Katz, returns home to Durban with her world-class band for performances to coincide with Celebrate Durban Week and the Awesome Africa Music Festival. The main performance of the group will be a free concert at Albert Park on Heritage Day (24th) and to tighten up the sound they have managed to squeeze in this special performance at the historic Rainbow, a venue that Sharon played at in the early 90's.

In addition to Katz on guitar, the band will feature Durban's Brian Thusi and George Mari on trumpet, Roland Moses on keyboards, and Thokozani Mkhize and Gugu Mazobe on vocals. America's Junius Pop Wilson will be on bass with Eric Roberts on drums and Lynn Riley on saxophone. Also in the line-up is Congo's Elie Kihonia on percussion. The legendary Dolly Rathebe is a special guest on the tour.Entrance is free.
