GARTH TAYLOR FOR SIMPLY RED (article first published : 2003-09-17)

Durban’s Garth Taylor will be supporting British superstars Simply Red, during their week-long South African tour.

In Durban, the Simply Red performance on September 18 at Westridge Park Stadium is presented by Big Concerts International, in association with East Coast Radio.

Garth Taylor has enjoyed massive success with his song Why...? which has been play-listed nationally on many radio stations. Together with gigging all over Cape Town and Durban, this has built him a solid and expanding fan base and instant success. This also secured him one of the opening slots for Shaggy’s concert in Durban in 2001.

Garth performs the title track for the official Natal Sharks album, and his latest album, Who Am I was produced, recorded and arranged by himself. Garth has just released a single with Idols finalist Melanie Lowe titled Islands in the Stream and the collaboration has been described as “vocal dynamite”!

He is influenced by jazz and rock legends like George Benson, Jonathon Butler and Toto. Each song has a deep and moving message, either written from Garth's own experiences or that of someone close to him. Having started off professionally at the tender age of 15, song writing and performance seemed to come almost naturally. Besides having a golden voice, Garth also taught himself to play the piano, guitar, drums & saxophone.

The British super-group Simply Red will get blood pumping and feet tapping during its imminent and highly anticipated "Home" tour to South Africa, and coupled with one of South Africa’s hottest Pop/Rock acts, these global superstars are destined to present a night of sing along mega-hits.
