SIPPIES BLUE BAND (article first published : 2003-09-14)

The Sippies Blues Band will be playing at Blue Bottleson the Point Waterfrom on September 14 from around 19h30. The group features the brilliant guitarist John Alen -guitarist for the legendary Tom Jones, among many. The band was originally formed in 1994 as a trio with John Alen, who hails from Wales, on vocals and guitar. With him are Doug Jolly on drums and Dave Oxborrow on bass and guitar. Their forte is, of course, Blues blended with a lot of rock and a few obscure tunes thrown in for good musical measure and dance floor pleasure. The band was a hit on the Splashy Fen Blues Stage and is frequently seen and heard at local functions.

Opening for them at 19h00 will be Maskandi maestro John Gcaba who is a much asked-for favourite. He will perform his Zulu story songs on his nDloko (one string Oil Can Violin) and his six string nylon guitar.
