GROOVA KZN TALENT SEARCH (article first published : 2003-08-23)

KZN’s leading recording company, Sonke Records is looking for young talented singers to be part of an exciting music project - GROOVA KZN. Auditions will be held at the SABC M1 studio in Oldfort Road on August 24.

Groova KZN is Ukhozi FM DJ - Lucky Sefatsa’s youth empowerment initiative. Over the past years Lucky has been involved youth projects and has seen the talent and enthusiasm shown by youngsters of KZN. He has also had a chance to listen to a number of demos, some of them dropped to him daily.

Part of the project is a 12-track music album titled Groova KZN vol.1, which will be recorded and launched later this year. Sefatsa’s aim is to empower young people by recording an album that will showcase the best talent KZN has to offer. “I believe with this project I can make a difference, change the lives and make dreams of the young artists come true. This will provide a stepping-stone for our talented youth to reach the sky” says Lucky Sefatsa.

Lucky has been in the radio industry for the past nine years. Not only is he a DJ but an executive member (programmes) at Audwax Radio (UDW) and Durban Youth Radio. His biggest break to date was his move to South Africa’s leading radio station Ukhozi FM.

Lucky has not only restricted himself to electronic media but has ventured to print media as well, he became a columnist for a youth magazine- Cheers Magazine. With the consistent interaction with young people Lucky says that this enhanced his understanding of people’s lifestyles and talents in KZN.

One hour long live performance by KZN’s gospel singers Gcina Mtshali and Sabelo Sibiya will entertain during intermission.

The fun-filled auditions will take place from 09h00 - 17h00 at the SABC M1 Studio and only KZN young talented artists, between 18 to 28 years will be auditioned. More information from Jongamazizi Sibaca on 031 307 1054 or 073 1850 449.
