GUY BUTTERY (article first published : 2003-07-4)

Multi-instrumentalist Guy Buttery (19) is currently performing around Durban and KZN. After his double nomination at this year's South African Music Awards for "Best Instrumental album of the Year" and "Best Newcomer for 2002", he has received much acclaim for his debut album When I Grow Up....

Guy is known for his extensive use of unorthodox techniques on the acoustic guitar. Extensive uses of harmonics, unusual percussive methods on the guitar and slap harmonics are often incorporated into his compositions. These techniques often give the impression of two or even three instruments being played at once. Guy also is fluent on the sitar and mandolin.

He will be performing a solo set at this year’s NBS Home & Garden Show. He can be found at the Rythmic Beat stand near the Food Court from 19h00 to 20h00 onJune 27 and 28 and July 4 and 5.

On July 6 in the Pearl Room of the Oyster Box Hotel, Nibs van der Spuy and Guy Buttery will performing solo's and duets at this one-off event. Nibs will showcase music off his latest solo album Flower in the Rain which was nominated for "Best Adult Contemporary" at this year's South African Music Awards.

Buttery will perform another solo set at CD Wherehouse (Gateway Shopping Centre) on July 12 from 14h00, playing pieces from his debut album missed.
