BONGANI SOKHELA OFF TO GAUTENG (article first published : 2003-06-20)

One of Durban's finest musicians, star bass player Bongani Sokhela leaves his home city when he moves to Gauteng next month. Meanwhile he's playing in the hottest new show in town at the Dockyard Supper Theatre on the Point Waterfront.

"I feel sad to leave the city I love so much, and will always keep the door open," says Sokhela who has just released a new CD Still On My Mind with jazz guru Darius Brubeck. "But right now I'm going out with a bang, playing my farewell season."

A hot property player on the professional circuit, both locally and abroad. Sokhela appears in a crack five-piece outfit in Lady Sings the Blues starring Karen van Pletsen with music director Evan Roberts. The line-up also features Alan Judd (lead and acoustic guitar) Shaun Petersen (drums) and Ray Ebenezer (sax). (See review on Supper Theatre pages)
