ZAIN BHIKHA LAUNCHES CD (article first published : 2003-06-16)

South African raised, internationally renowned singer and songwriter Zain Bhikha has released his single and album - both titled Our World, an inspiring, spiritual project that is all too pertinent in these times.

The single and lead song on the album Our World- is sung in English and has a universal appeal. Although always of relevance, the messages are even more poignant within the current war-ravaged socio-political climate today and the song attempts to lift spirits and offer hope at a time of sadness.

Our World addresses non religious-specific issues but rather the woes all humankind experience such as poverty, war, starvation and abuse. "These are all issues of significant relevance to humankind across religious, cultural and traditional groups," says Zain.

The album itself features mainly harmonious choral compositions and some songs with minimal percussive accompaniment. Our World is released through Jamal records, a subsidiary of Mountain of Light: a record label owned by Yusuf Islam (previously known as Cat Stevens). The album has already been successfully launched in the UK and the Middle East followed by a well-received tour in the United States.

Yusuf Islam is also featured on the album along with Zain's nine-year old son Rashid Ahmed. Young Rashid joins his father to sing the songs they often sing on his way to school. The album features many other talented singers from across the globe but also in different languages from Arabic, Urdu, French, and Turkish to Zulu. The album also introduces a bright new local talent in 12 year old Faeeza Malinga who is from a home for disadvantaged children on the East Rand.

The album is available locally from Mountain of Light South Africa on 011 486 3558 or 011 495 0121 or fax 011 646 0897 or e-mail: info@mountainoflight.co.za or visit www.mountainoflight.com
