DEMAND A DOX (article first published : 2003-06-16)

South Africans travelling abroad need never again have to worry about lost travel documents thanks to an innovative and exciting new document storage and retrieval system that looks set to revolutionise the way holiday makers plan their travels.

SAA City Center announces the introduction of SAACC DOCS, thereby becoming the first retail travel chain to offer this type of service in South Africa. The service is a user-friendly and secure Internet application designed to simplify electronic document storage by ensuring convenient, simple, and secure global access and retrieval of important travel, personal and business documents if they are lost or stolen. This includes items such as passports, identity documents, medical documents, travellers cheque numbers, visa’s, flight bookings, hotel bookings, travel itinerary, backup business presentations, international drivers license, travel insurance policy docs, car hire details and legal contracts.

SAA City Center was established in South Africa in 1997, and the concept is based on the internationally successful Lufthansa City Center franchise. SAACC is fully owned by South African Airways and has more than 130 branches countrywide. Products include the best airfares on all airlines, car rental, cruises, hotel accommodation around the world, and great value-for-money tour packages.

Reports indicate that every six minutes a South African international traveller loses his or her travel. SAACC DOCS now enables tourists to view, email or fax their documents to any destination in the world from either an Internet connection or from their mobile phones. The service also provides users with a "mobile office" service.

The system operates like a pre-paid cell phone whereby the user can activate the pre-paid service at a cost of R30 for 5MB space (for life), which at a special launch offer, will provide and additional 10MB space for free. If more web space is required, a R30 top-up fee will purchase an additional 25MB of space. Unlimited space is available at additional top-up fees.

Says SAA City Center CEO Michael Stöltzing: "As the leading travel company in Africa we are always striving to add value to the customer experience by engendering customer care, and adding real value to their travel experience. In addition, given the future of the travel industry in South Africa, we continuously strive to introduce new and innovative products to our franchise partners to enable them to continuously provide an improved service to their clients. We are therefore proud to introduce this exclusive product that is set to revolutionise the way we travel, and how we arrange our travel plans.
