Soprano Natalie Dickson, most recently heard on stage at the Artscape performing Nedda in last year’s production of I Paggliachi has been accepted to study at the Royal College of Music, London.

She was in London in December and was able to audition for the prestigious college. She was accepted and will be studying a Postgraduate Diploma in Singing, followed by an Advanced Course in Opera Studies. The course fees are a staggering £12 000. Reaching for the Stars, a benefit concert to help raise funds, will be held at the Baxter Theatre Complex on April 2.

Natalie started her studies at the UCT Opera School under Angelo Gobbato. She obtained her Performers Diploma in Music (Opera); and her Bachelors of Music, Honours (specialising in Opera). She is currently studying under Sarita Stern. She was then accepted into the Demindex Cape Town Opera Studio for two years where she performed numerous roles including Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica); Nella & Lauretta (Gianni Schicci); Valencienne (The Merry Widow); Gretel (Hansel & Gretel).

She has since perormed Nedda (Pagliacci) and Elettra (Idomeneo) and has performed in religious works including Handel's Messiah; Mozart Requiem; Brahms Requiem; and many masses. Natalie has been a soloist in many big events including Aqua Opera; Starlight Classics; Kirstenbosch Concerts and The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, to name a few.

To raise funds, Cape Town's favorite and up and coming singers and musicians are putting on a splendid evening of music and song. The artists include Nicky Cencherle, Beverley Chiat, Natalie Dickson, Angelo Gobbato, Sopie Harmsen, Brad Liebl, Andrea Palk, Aviva Pelham, Thomas Pluddemann, Sally Presant, Melanie Scholtz, Sarita Stern, Victor Tichardt, Hestie-Marie White and Louis Zuurnamer.
