KZNPO SYMPHONY SERIES (article first published : 2003-03-8)

Israeli conductor Omri Hadari returns to Durban. A well-known presence on the KZNPOís concert stage, he will conduct two concerts.

The first, on March 6, features world-renowned clarinettist Dimitri Ashkenazy whose exquisite artistry is given full rein in Coplandís Clarinet Concerto. Other works in the programme are Brahmsís Tragic Overture and Mussorgskyís Pictures at an Exhibition.

On March 13, gifted young Israeli violinist Netta Hadari makes a highly popular return to Durban to play Mozartís Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola. Under the baton of his father, Omri Hadari, he shares the stage with award-winning viola player Antoine Tamestit. Also to be performed will be Prokofievís Romeo & Juliet.

German-born and Cape Town based maestro Bernhard Gueller moves to the conductorís podium for the concert on March 19. Recently appointed as Principal Conductor of the Symphony Nova Scotia in Halifax, Canada, he joins forces with the KZN Philharmonic and multi-talented JťrŰme Ducros for Schumannís ever popular Piano Concerto. Mendelssohnís Overture to A Midsummer Nightís Dream and Beethovenís Symphony No 3 will also be performed.

Hot property French cellist, Jerome Pernoo plays Dvorakís Cello Concerto in B Minor in the final concert of the Summer Season to be conducted by Robert Maxym on March 27. The KZNPO will also perform DvorŠkís Othello : Overture and Schumannís Symphony No 4.
