BAT DECK MUSIC (article first published : 2003-02-21)

Enjoy good music in the scenic location of the BAT Centre’s BAT Deck.

Starting at 18h00 on February 21, the group 'K.B's Menu' will play Afro-jazz standards and originals with their usual panache. The outfit comprises K.B Maphumulo (bass & vocals) ; Zithulele Dlamini (drums) ; Thulani Mgobhozi (acoustic guitar/vocals) ; Buyani Sangweni (sax) and Nomusa Ndawo (backing vocals). Like all Music on the Deck concerts, this one comes to you, FREE, courtesy of TransAfrica Express and the BAT Centre.

Music on the Deck on February 23 from 15h00 features the Vusi Mkhize Band who will present some of the hottest talent on the local music circuit. The hugely popular six piece group, under the leadership of guitarist and lead vocalist, Vusi Mkhize, has been a highlight at BAT Centre concerts since 1997. Thanks to the exposure afforded by the BAT, the group secured a tour to the Far East in 1998. In 1999 they were semi finalists in the groundbreaking Battle of the Bands, and in 2000 they recorded their debut album under legendary bassist/producer, Sipho Gumede.

On February 28 from 18h00, the performers will be Imizwilili (The Sweet Melodies). The nine piece group describes their style as Umgqashiyo. The best known exponents of this type of music are Mahlatini & The Mahotella Queens.
