MUSIC REVIVAL (article first published : 2002-11-25)

Christopher Duigan’s Pietermaritzburg-based Music Revival organisation has a busy programme ahead for December.

First off is Diva! with this year’s Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for Music, Angela Gilbert. This will take place on December 5 at 19h30 at Hilton College Theatre.

A hugely gifted soprano currently visiting from the New York Metropolitan Opera, Angela Gilbert has established a massive following locally with her candid views of opera and a sublime vocal ability. Undeniably holding celebrity status in the Music Revival calendar, her concert has been moved to the larger venue at Hilton College to accommodate the size of audience expected.

The programme, which has been sponsored by M R Woollam & Assoc c.c.- Insurance Brokers, includes operatic arias and song by Handel, Mozart and Richard Strauss as well as Italian opera by Bellini and Puccini. There will be piano solos by Christopher Duigan.

Tickets R50 booked through Hilton College Theatre on 033 343 0126 or Music Revival on 033 342-3051 or e-mail chris@musicrevival.co.za

Other concerts from Music Revival include Gypsy Violin & Open Day with the Kerimov Trio at Wedgwood in Hilton on December 8 at 18h00. Christopher Duigan will also present Christmas Concerts with the popular Brass 4 CAST and Maggie Deppe (oboe and cor anglais) on December 15 at Epworth School Chapel in Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg (11h15); Church of the Ascension in Hilton (15h30) and Briar Ghyll in Howick Road, Pietermaritzburg (18h00)

Bronwen Forbay, well-known Durban opera singer now studying in the US will perform in A Night at the Opera at Wedgewood in Hilton on December 20 at 19h00 and on December 22 at 12h30.

The Mixed Bag is the title of Christopher Duigan’s festive season concerts. This year’s version offers a wider range of repertoire, amusements and fun interludes never presented in one concert before. There will be performances at No 35 Montgomery Drive, Athlone, Pietermaritzburg on December 30 and 31 at 19h30.

Booking through Music Revival on 033 342-3051 or e-mail chris@musicrevival.co.za
