SELBY HLANGU (article first published : 2002-08-22)

The Friends of Musicís next Prelude Performer, courtesy of funding from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund is singer Selby Hlangu, who will perform on September 3 prior to the appearance of the guest recital artist of the evening, Wolfgang Sengstschmid..

Selby Hlangu was chosen during his school days to sing in the Mariathal High School Choir and he has been a member of the Durban Serenades Choir since 1995.

After an audition at the University of Natal Durban, he was awarded a full scholarship to register this year for the Diploma in Music Performance and he was recently selected by Dr David Tidboald to sing in the KZNPO Youth Concerto Festival in October. He has also been invited by Richard Cock to perform in the Last Night of the Proms concert and was awarded a SAMRO Bursary for an excellent mark in the Fundamentals Theory course.

His ten-minute programme for Friends of Music on September 3 will include I Got Plenty of Nothing from Porgy and Bess, Non Piu Andrai from Mozartís Le Nozze di Figaro and Cacciniís Amarilli, Mia Bella.

The concert takes place at the Durban Jewish Club. There is safe parking and a cash bar is available. Booking is at Computicket.
