CELINE DION FOR M-NET (article first published : 2002-08-14)

French-Canadian pop diva Celine Dion graces M-Net screens this month in her first television special in three years. Celine Dion: A New Day Has Come is the one-hour special produced by Emmy Award-winning Ken (The Grammys) Ehrlich highlighting superstar Celine Dion's triumphant return to the world of music.

The special will premiere on M-Net on August 24 at 19h30. A New Day Has Come features performances of Celine's best known worldwide hits as well as selections from her brand new 2002 CD - her first studio work since 1997.

Joining Celine Dion in this eagerly anticipated television special are R&B idols Destiny's Child and Brian McKnight. Some of the songs performed on the special include My Heart Will Go On (theme from Titanic); Beauty and the Beast with Brian McKnight; Emotion with Destiny's Child; Because You Love Me (theme from Up Close and Personal) and many others.

Born in Quebec in 1968, Celine Dion is the 14th child of a musically inclined family. She began singing at five and recorded her first demo at age 12. Only after learning English in the late '80s did she sign a deal with Sony. In 1990 she released her US debut, Unison. With four Top 10 singles, including Where Does My Heart Beat Now and (If There Was) Any Other Way, the album surpassed sales expectations. But Dion's superstardom was further by her voice performance in the Disney film Beauty and the Beast; several songs from the soundtrack appeared on her 1992 self-titled follow-up which went to No. 1 and won her a Grammy for Best Song.
